Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) returns to the Chinese shrimp market with its new stock of CP Kong, an SPF WSSV tolerant, robust strain that the company has had in development for five years.

“CP was never suspended from selling broodstock to China, it was a voluntary decision on our part.  We feel the time is right to return to China with our new stock CP Kong,” said Robin McIntosh, executive vice president at CPF, to Hatchery Feed & Management. “China has struggled with pond survival and we hope that CP Kong will make an improvement in the Chinese experience with P. vannamei,” McInstosh said.

The company’s main strain, CP Turbo, with superior growth and APHNS, TSV, IHHNV tolerance, will also be available in China.

“Early sales this year resulted in improved pond performance and as such, we expanded our sales effort. We hope to sell 100,000 broodstock in 2021 with a goal of doubling that number in 2022. We also hope to introduce CP Kong into Latin America, if it proves successful in China. Our P. monodon continues to do well in China and our market for SPF P. monodon improves each year there,” concluded McIntosh.
