Aquaculture Specialist Hatchery & Nursery – Sri Lanka

Global Ceylon Seafood is seeking a dedicated and experienced aquaculture specialist for its marine fish hatchery in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.

Global Ceylon Seafood (GCS), a consortium of Norwegian and Sri Lankan investors, has taken over the Sri Lankan government's multi-species hatchery in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The hatchery is presently being renovated and upgraded.

GCS is seeking a dedicated and experienced aquaculture specialist for its marine fish hatchery in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The ideal candidate will be focusing on the production of high-quality fry and fingerlings as part of our dynamic and energetic team. The candidate will also work closely with the development of the integrated cage farm located in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the hatchery renovation and upgrading works.
  • Engage in planning for hatchery operations, including identification of suppliers for equipment, feed, enrichments and other supplies.
  • Supervise the collection of local broodstock.
  • Ensure achievement of targeted fry production numbers.
  • Oversee live food production processes including algae, rotifers, and Artemia, and their enrichment.
  • Conduct grading, sorting, and vaccination of fry.
  • Ensure effective fish health management.
  • Develop and implement effective feeding strategies.
  • Demonstrate expertise in live fish fry transport.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and manage bookkeeping tasks.

Requirements:

  • Preferable industrial fish hatchery experience.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership skills complemented by excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • A collaborative spirit, able to work effectively with teams across different levels and geographical locations and possess a positive work attitude.
  • Commitment to good aquaculture practices and continuous learning in the field.

The position involves three months work from home and 21 months full-time, onsite in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.
