The Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, launched the construction of the first marine fish hatchery in the country located in the commune of Gueznaya (Tangier), reported MAP.

The project, announced in February, will be developed by AquaGo, a subsidiary of AgriGo Group. The hatchery plans to produce up to 30 million high-quality fingerlings of seabream, seabass, meagre and other species of interest to national aquaculture farms. Spread over an area of 2.28 hectares and with an investment of MAD 120 million (USD 12 million), the hatchery will be developed within the framework of the "Halieutis" plan, which aims for Morocco to increase its production. The project will be financially supported by the government with MAD 20 million (USD 2 million).

Shavit Dahan, project development manager at Aquago Company, said that “this project reflects Morocco's openness to qualitative economic projects, especially those with high added value for the maritime fishing sector. This project also testifies to Morocco's permanent concern to encourage investments aimed not only at supporting the national economy but also contributing to the protection of the environment and the preservation of natural resources.”
