Hatchery Feed & Management is holding the webinar series Trends in Aquaculture Hatcheries that focuses on different topics of importance for aquaculture hatcheries, such as diseases, breeding and genetics, feeds and water conditioning. All webinars are free. The second webinar in the series, Breeding and Genetics, will be held on April 26 at 12 pm GMT.

Animal breeding and genetics programs are applied to meet production challenges, such as disease resistance, improved growth or robustness. In aquaculture species where these techniques have been implemented, such as salmon, tilapia and shrimp, farming efficiencies have improved, increasing farmers' profitability.

In this webinar, four panelists will discuss how these techniques can improve aquaculture farms and their future perspectives.

  • Future perspectives on selective breeding in aquaculture, John Buchanan, CEO at The Center for Aquaculture Technologies.
  • Breeding for disease resistance in shrimp: from mass-selection to genomic tools, Marcela Salazar, Scientific Director at Benchmark Genetics Colombia
  • Past, current and future trends in selective breeding of Nile tilapia for production efficiency, Rajesh Joshi, Senior Researcher at GenoMar
  • The genetic potential in growth, Hans Halle-Knutzen, Sales and Marketing Manager at AquaGen.

Moderator: Anna Sonesson, Research Director, Nofima.
