Spring Genetics signed a new agreement with Proceal, an important tilapia producer in Colombia and a leading premium aquaculture exporter in Colombia, to supply broodstock for the next three years.

“We are very satisfied with the signing of a new and important agreement for the supply of broodstock to Colombia and to support the sustainable growth of the tilapia industry in the region,” said Hideyoshi Segovia, commercial and operations manager of Spring Genetics. “Spring Genetics runs one of the most advanced tilapia breeding programs in the world. We currently have a strong presence in the Latin American market, with especially good acceptance in Colombia, where we hope to continue supplying the growing tilapia production industry with our high-performance stock. This is the result of ten years of genetic work,” added Segovia.

This is the third contract signed by Spring Genetics in Colombia since it was granted the export license to that country at the end of 2019. The first shipment for Proceal took place in September. Fish will first go through a specially dedicated quarantine facility to undergo a comprehensive health screening before being introduced to Proceal’s operations at Bethania Reservoir.

“The signing of this contract is an important step in the execution of our growth strategy,” said Jaime Macias, general manager of Proceal S.A. “Genetics is an important starting point in production that helps us optimize production potential, as well as improve the health and well-being of animals. We are delighted to work with the Spring Genetics team to ensure continuous improvements and advancements in our stock.”
