Assistant Hatchery Manager - Scotland

Marine Harvest is looking to recruit an Assistant Hatchery Manager for a new recirculation unit at its Inchmore site that will be operational in early 2018. The new unit will produce 4.5million smolts to meet the increased demand as a result of recent expansion in seawater sites and 6.5 million parr for stocking freshwater loch on-growing sites.
The Assistant Hatchery Manager will initially train at the Company’s Recirculation Unit at Lochailort in the lead up to the opening of the Inchmore Recirculation Unit. The role is focused upon care of the eggs prior to hatching and also effective fish husbandry of the fry and smolts.
The Assistant Hatchery Manager will assist the manager in the day to day running of the site and deputise in their absence. Applicants must ideally demonstrate a strong knowledge of recirculation processes and the various elements which need to be maintained in order to ensure the correct water quality environment to promote healthy, thriving fish. In addition they would be expected to demonstrate a good understanding of general hatchery production and all that is involved in farming from egg to smolt.
The chosen applicants will be part of a large team so must be self-motivated and have good communication and planning skills. A high degree of computer literacy is also essential. In addition they will be expected to be part of a weekly alarm rota and be required to stay on site providing 24 hour call out cover. A driving license is essential.
