Through the Akvaforsk Genetics brand, Benchmark Genetics has provided technical genetics services to a large number of breeding programs around the world covering nearly 20 aquatic species. The company is now strengthening its strategic focus in this area and appointed Jørn Thodesen as business manager - Applied Genetics Consultancy.

Jørn Thodesen comes from the position of senior scientific advisor, where he was responsible for advising and monitoring external breeding programs in Asia and Europe for many years. In the new position, Jørn will be responsible for establishing new customer relationships and adapting the company’s consultancy services to better meet the demands of various segments of the global market. This market consists of a wide range of players, from large, fully integrated aquaculture companies to small, specialized breeding programs.

“I am very pleased that Jørn has accepted this exciting and ambitious opportunity,” said Morten Rye, director of genetics. “The timing of this strategic refocusing is perfect and I believe Jørn will succeed in expanding our external customer base and securing our leading position as a one-stop technical service provider to aquaculture industries worldwide.”

“Aquaculture is a significant contributor to more sustainable food production and the new position is aimed at helping aquaculture companies achieve better production yields and higher animal welfare. I find this very motivating,” said Thodesen.
